Movie Review : Post mortem of-- The Eight Murder!

7 Khoon Maaf----This was one of the most awaited films of the year and why not! Priyanka Chopra is among the leading actresses today in Bollywood and the director Vishal Bharadwaj has his own reputation of making unconventional subjects into a commercial success. Add to that the peepy soundtrack and the intriguing trailors and people were all geared up to watch this movie. The release date was also ironical – around Valentines---Daaarling!
I too wanted to catch the film during the opening weekend but then couldn’t do so, due to other commitments. Just saw it the other day a well one month after release, but then guess by then 8th (aathva) khoon ho chukka tha! What reviews man and what negative publicity for the film.
People just went overboard. FaceBook status messages, word of mouth ,Tweets all came heavy on this one. From messages like “7 khoon bilkul maaf nahi” ….to “Mera khoon ho gaya!!!” , the criticism of this film was everywhere on social media. This actually deterred me from catching a glimpse of the movie even during the second week. After all who wants to spend heavy bucks on a turkey!.
It was just by chance that i caught the movie over this weekend. The world cup match scheduled was a washout giving me lots of time and nothing to do since there were no prior plans made. So when you are bored, anything is welcome and that’s how i saw 7 khoon maaf and what an eye-opener it was.
From the start to the end the film had me glued. The acting, the direction, screenplay was all fine. The story was fascinating . The film is adapted from the book Susana’s 7 husbands by Ruskin bond who i believe even plays a cameo in this one. However i had not read the book and saw the movie without any bias and that could also be a reason why it appealed to me.
Dark films usually find it tough in the minds of Bollywood audience (who are used to watching feel good films all the time) to make a mark but it’s not something which has not happened, an example that comes to my mind is Black. One may argue saying that this film was for a niche / multiplex audience but then the single screen audience doesn’t tweet or post status at least in this fashion . All you know they may not have even bothered to watch it.
At the end of the day i feel 7 khoon maaf is a decent watch, at least once for sure if not seven times! Don’t know why people preferred to kill this one the moment it released. Am not too bothered about what critics write because they seldom get it right!. However the public this time, i guess was expecting a little too much or just didn’t get the plot and in the process 8th (aathva ) khoon ho gaya!

Goood post. Though even I didnt like the movie, but I hate it when the audience writeoff a movie basis a few reviews. Many good films loose because of this and many pathetic movies that are well promoted by a bunch of fools are BO hits... SINGH IS KING is a gr8 eg of this. To keep it simple, see what you like and ignore others opinions, make urs
